By MADELEINE AREK THE Autonomous Region of Bougainville will come alive today during the official launch of various major infrastructural development projects. Deputy Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu is leading a National Government delegation to Bougainville to launch the Lonahan-Hakulu section of the Buka ring road upgrade, the Bougainville sanitation system and a VSat communication system. They will also hand over road machinery to various electorates in the region. Staff from the office of Bougainville Regional MP Fidelis Semoso were hard at work yesterday putting finishing touches to preparations. They described today’s ministerial visit as a first for the region since the elections last year. Those accompanying Dr Temu comprise National Planning Minister Paul Tiensten, Don Polye (Transport, Works and Civil Aviation), Michael Ogio (Higher Education, Science and Technology), Inter-Governmental Relations Minister Job Pomat, Communications Minister Patrick Tammur and Fisheries Minister Ben Semri. Dr Temu will also pay a courtesy call on ABG president James Tanis before his official engagement at the Bel Isi Park. The visitors will later tour the autonomous government parliament building and Radio Bougainville. Night activities have also been planned as part of the celebrations. Tomorrow, the ring road project will take precedence to be followed by a field trip to the Solonakori seed garden, containing hybrid coconut and cocaa plants for distribution to farmers in the region. The team then departs Buka for Port Moresby.
