Bx Price Continues to Rise in Shanxi

The bauxite price in Shanxi has been rising rapidly. The price for bauxite with an A/S ratio of 5.0~5.5 has gainedto RMB250~RMB270/t delivered at a buyer’s plant without tax in Xiaoyi and Yuanping, RMB 20/t more than the price of RMB230~RMB250/t of July and August. The local bauxite price in Shanxi has climbed over RMB70~RMB80/t since February while prices in other major bauxite producing regions have remained stable. Bauxite with an A/S ratio of 4~5 in Henan is RMB190~ RMB230/t delivered at a buyer’s plant without tax and bauxite with 60% alumina content and an A/S ratio of 5.5~6 in Guizhou is RMB150~RMB170/t delivered at a buyer’s plant without tax.
The increasing bauxite price can be attributed to the commencement of newly built local alumina capacity. In addition, in August, the State Council sent central environmental inspection groups into some regions, resulting in an increase in bauxite price. With far stricter governmental control over mines, it is more difficult for new mines to come into production while old mines are engulfed with production declines and resource shortages - even exhaustion. Inevitably, the bauxite price will continue to rise.
