If you're talking about the July / August 2014 spike, the run up was trader driven and pull back was a natural consequence. SYR spiked somewhat less at the same time on rumours of a takeover by Glencore, but I've never been convinced of any strong link between the two.
Wish I'd sold all of my holding (or 8% to free carry) in the 7 minutes TON was above 90c but I'd gone outside for a durry and missed it. Some lessons learned there.
At that time there was a lot of misinformation around, I think Credit Suisse's work experience kid calculated that Nicanda Hill strip ratio was 22:1. Out by an order of magnitude from 0.8:1.
