Rennick just made an absolute fool of himself.
A rolled gold, first class goose.
By rabbiting on about 90% capacity of nuclear generation he proved that he doesn't understand the Australian electricity market .
The CSlRO guy gently tried to explain to him that even though baseload nuclear and coal
can run at 90% technically , if it were to do that it would be operating at a loss for 30% of that time in Australia. Hence his point about data from the US not being relevant .
That's why coal only has an operational capacity factor of about 60% in Australia today. A number that is falling year on year. lt used to have a much higher capacity factor as the chart below shows but as more and more much cheaper renewable generation enters the market , it's profitable operational capacity is falling . lt is economically better for them to run less .
l encourage both you and dopey Rennick to go to the opennem website and use the slider on the chart to toggle between 2005 and today. lt clearly shows how the mix of generation has changed over time . From the good old days of at 90% coal to now where it's about 60% .
The really funny thing about this is that Rennick was dumb enough to allow this to be posted on the internet so that people can actually see that he doesn't know what he is talking about .
As to the boss of the CSlRO not answering the questions about the GenCost report , that's because he is not the author or subject matter expert .
That would be like a politician talking about how a nuclear power policy will deliver cheaper power when he doesn't know how many reactors , what type of reactors or how much they cost . Someone that did that would be an idiot .
Oh wait............................
