    the chinese are strategic players. Control of available mineral supply and, just as importantly, the pricing is the most strategic of interests.

    The chinese found in the recent minerals boom that they did not have the power to dictate the prices they would pay, they eventually had to accept, to a large extent, the significant increases we demanded.

    It does not take full ownership of all companies to enable them to influence the selling prices to their advantage. It just take a suitable interest in strategic companies that can act as price-breakers when needed.

    Sine rudd is a willing seller at bargain prices it would be a very foolish player that would not take him up on the bargain.

    It is the bargain of the century, at least for the chinese, but not so good for us except in the very short term.

    It is a bit like a compulsive gambler selling the car he drove to the casino in so that he can get money for one more bet.... Never pretty to watch.
