" .. including that the sun is nearing the low point of its current sunspot cycle,"

From what I understand, the current climate models only include "normal" radiative forcing from the Sun and do not include other factors such as the Sun's particle emissions as forcing factors. There are even studies that suggest a link between Cosmic and Planetary influences on Earth's climate cycles. However, our current science doesn't yet have accepted mechanisms to explain these apparent links or their effect on cloud cover, so they are just not included and Human generated CO2 is cited as the only possible cause of what is observed.

It now seems that some of these other factors will be factored into future IPCC reports and hopefully the models on which they base so much of the predictions. Even so, it's still not clear whether we should be preparing for short term temperature declines which are often fatal or short term temperature increases which vary considerably in their actual effect.

In Australia, the obvious thing regardless of the causes of climate change, is water conservation and water infrastructure projects. It's a no brainer and the inaction fostered by politicians' fear of the "green" influence is a blight on common sense.
Either that or we actively opt for a smaller Human population ... and that is highly unlikely.

Endless fussing over the finer points of Australia's CO2 emissions/reductions ... which will have NO measurable impact on climate change ... under the "virtue signalling" claim that it will give us moral authority to influence the decisions of the actual major CO2 emitters, is at best stupid and at worse ... worse than stupid.
Up there with zbusc's claim that you should accept Jesus as the Creator and Saviour because if you don't then Hell awaits for eternity, but if you do then it's only been a minor inconvenience to your otherwise sinful lifestyle.

"... so what we have now is just a period of grace that can allow us to take action that can ameliorate the inevitable shift in climate"

Adaptation should be high up on the list of action. Not moral virtue pretense that it's possible for Australia .. or even Humanity, to change climate outcomes. Whatever that may be.

As it is, our children are having the pants scared off them by extremists and the media loves and fosters this because fear sells.

The two extreme ends of the so called climate debate is a definite example of the same human concerns and psychology that inevitable leads to the corruption of the religious impulse.
