‘Media never permitted to cover cabinet meetings’

KUCHING: Members of the media, both print and electronic, have never been given permission to do coverage during State Cabinet meetings.

Media officer in the Chief Minister’s office Amin Sahmat said it has never been the practice of the state government to hold press conferences after the cabinet meeting had ended.

As such, he said it was wrong to accuse the government of barring the media from covering the cabinet meeting again and again, as reported in several newspapers yesterday.
“The media representatives who covered the meetings before this were found to have not asked questions specifically to what was discussed during the cabinet meeting, but instead they asked about other topics.
“Because of this, the State government would only call in the media for press conferences only when there is a need to do so,” he said in a statement yesterday.
