CABINET SUB-COMMITTEE SECRETARIAT SAYS WORK ON PROJECTS PROGRESSING

The Cabinet Sub Committee Secretariat has confirmed that there is progress in regards to its ongoing programs.
The four key programs of the Cabinet Sub Committee Secretariat are: Russel Islands Plantations Estate Ltd (RIPEL), Commodity Exporting Marketing Authority (CEMA), Development Bank of Solomon Islands and Gold Ridge Sub Committees.
The Gold Ridge Sub Committee has already taken off the ground, the company is set to kick start gold production in 18 months’ time.
The Cabinet Sub Committee for Gold Ridge mining will be monitoring the company until production starts.
Additionally, the DBSI Sub Committee is currently having a bill drafted by the Attorney General Chambers. The draft bill is being being finalised and preparation is underway for a national consultation with the new bill, and it is hopeful that the bill will be tabled in the National Parliament in October.
Meanwhile, the CEMA Sub Committee has also confirmed that it has already completed its baseline report and is ready to go into Cabinet, which should then provide for a clearer overview of the progress of the program. It is anticipated that a reorganisation and reform on CEMA is expected.
With regards to the RIPEL Sub Committee, currently consultations with the communities in Russells had concluded. The Sub Committee is now working towards a Russells Islands People and Investment Round Table proposed for next month. This will see, the Lavukal people, former workers representative, settlers and the Central Islands Province in a discussion to set the way forward over the ongoing impasse with the RIPEL issue.
The stakeholders have shown great interest in this proposed roundtable.
Meanwhile, the Government has already started preparation on the setup of a Cabinet Sub Committee for the National Nickel Project.
