Let's be honest it was not infill drilling as you wouldn't need that if it was well mapped out resource so someone f&&%*%up. The only reason to unwind hedge is that it isn't required by bank and they can't deliver the gold otherwise you would let it run as free protection you already have paid for.
Throughput is increased but gold grade is lower, expenses per ounce will be greater resource will deplete twice as fast and all that assumes they have got the rest of the orebody mapped correctly without dumb assumptions or bodgy work.
Why would anyone partner up? Well to get leverage on the land (with pre approvals) and mill it is that simple as in 8 months unless they have exploration success they are stuffed. Add another 6 months if the court case comes good but then it is kaput without a major easy to access high grade find which requires little low cost development and is close to mill.
They need a deep pocketed partner now who can put dollars into exploration instantly and support an arrangement with the bank so they are confident in continued funding.
I don't see stokers company as that partner! but bigger players may have a go and I do see an issue of sorts.
Why is it taking so long- normally it is short time because the bankers force it to be done in 5 days (or just pull the pin) so GTM must be ok with the bank for now as I don't think the bank wants a non operating asset to sell and realise it is worth more as a going concern.
The longer this goes on the more players will have seen the books and the opportunity avaliable hopefully resulting in a better deal for GTM shareholders.
They are a basketcase but still have some goodies in the basket to interest other companies. At the sort of numbers I've heard some quick agile non listed boys will probably have a go with cash due to the good ground and the cash freed up by allowing them to mine out the next 6 months. How much of the company do they want for their cash is the question but it couldn't be worse than the massive dillution issue first proposed which was laughable.
