    The Position

    The Drilling and Operations Manager will be responsible for managing Cairn’s drilling activity across two of its three regions, Senegal and International. Scope will extend across both operated and non-operated wells. The role will be based in Cairn’s head office in Edinburgh, UK and will report to the Group Well Engineering Manager, a position currently filled by a long-term, well-respected contractor.

    The Drilling and Operations Manager will work with the Group Well Engineering Manager on drilling management systems, assurance, risk profiling, process and strategy. They will lead a small team, primarily consisting of highly experienced contractors and consultants. The longer term offers the possibility (within two years) to be considered for the Group Well Engineering Manager role.

    There is much to do, with further recent drilling success in Senegal and new drilling programmes scheduled in Senegal and Ireland, where the Drilling and Operations Manager will need to bring influence and assurance to Cairn’s plans.

    The Candidate

    The ideal candidate will offer relevant drilling and operations experience. With drilling engineering experience gained internationally, the candidate will bring first-hand knowledge and understanding of the challenges of working in frontier regions or harsh environments. Candidates should present a demonstrable track record of delivering first-class HSE, drilling and team performance and cost control in offshore, onshore and deep water drilling projects.

    Ideal candidates will bring good hands-on experience in drilling and operations project management, HSE and risk management with a focus on planning and operational execution, and have experience of directly project managing several drilling programmes in challenging environments.

    Preferably educated to degree-level in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline, the ideal candidate will have a valid well-control certificate, up to date BOSIET/HUET certifications and H2S Safety Awareness Training, with membership expected of an appropriate professional body (e.g. SPE). In addition, a sound understanding in other technical functions such as petroleum engineering, operations geology, petrophysics and logistics is expected.
