I wonder if the reason for the limited primary porosity is due to the whole uplift and burial phenomenon at Cap Juby. By this I mean at one point Cap Juby was lower than Trident, but over time it came very close to the surface and then went through a severe burial again where it once again is lower than Trident. The compression of this may have been enough to make the porosities in this particular area quite poor. I am no geologist, so I may be way off the mark, but it makes sense when I think about it.
We know they have encountered light oil in the middle Jurassic before, so perhaps this means Trident can still be a success as it shouldn't have gone through these severe weathering events. Perhaps we will know more about the well's details later on after evaluation of the well logs.
