It is true that lawyers can hold a lien over documents until they're paid. In fact, it happened with Calcifer and their last set of lawyers.
That said, a trial date has been set and I sincerely doubt Judge McMurdo would entertain the idea of extending this further, particularly given Calcifer's ongoing recalcitrance.
