yes telfer did start at very high grades way back when the pols/croats/and so on were employed to get the high grade with hand held drills eg:- airlegs (google airleg mining).
i actually worked with a guy that worked those days at telfer and he told me that one seam they followed with airlegs was like a black mud and they got fist fulls off it and bucketed it out so yes high grade early days for sure.
as for today im not sure about $1000 an ounce but i was their when they expanded telfer at a cost of well over $1 billion and gold was like 300 bucks an ounce so i cant see $1000 an ounce being close unless they completely stuffed the model up.
all good anyways as sp is heading in the right direction and i have shitloads of them.
