Privatising a network often leads to a shift from preventative maintenance and upgrades, to reactive. The situation in CA is far worse than we've seen here unfortunately/luckily. In VIC the grid operator was forced to upgrade their network safety at huge cost, to prevent them causing more wildfires. In CA, they just turn the power off when it gets too hot or windy.
