What is for sure is that when people don't have water, the correct politics is not to "export water" to other countries through almonds. Supply demand tells you that with less water available for farms in general, almonds despite being a more profitable crop will also get impacted. Californian supply won't disappear, but its total % contribution to almond production in the world will decrease over the years. Australia and Spain will ramp up more to fill in the gap.
Not sure about the spacing on the trees. What's the source that you guys are referring to? I can see circa 2000 pounds per acre yield for California, but not sure about how many trees per acre..
