Interestingly I was watching a movie the other night which was set in an almond region of Southern California near the Mexican border. I was surprised to see that the almond orchards were not raised and that the soils looked heavy and clay-ish. The Robinvale corridor has light soils and free draining light loam. The heavier clays on the lower aspects are not planted to almonds.
