Drafter, from what I have read it would appear that stopping HAART does not always result in an immediate increase in viral load. It would seem to depend on each individual set of circumstances. Over time (unless treated) the viral load will increase but that period does not seem to the same for everyone.
In terms of Tye, it is statistically possible for him to be off HAART and have a low viral load but he is unlikely to remain undetectable without the effect of Cal-1. That said, it does not mean that Cal-1 has cured him, it just means that, at least for the time being, it has suppressed the HIV sufficiently to keep him undetectable. Nor does it mean that he will always stay undetectable.
Tye's result is encouraging but statistically insignificant. We really need to see more data from the other patients over a longer period of time before we can get an idea as to how much Cal-1 is contributing to the reduced viral load. Remember the Sangamo trial? They had one star patient as did CoH. In the Sangamo trial I think their star patient was like Tye, very low or undetectable and remains off HAART. The results for the rest of the patients was not so spectacular.
