Calix seems set to ramp up its water business.

At present the group treats discharged water, mainly in the US.

But last Thursday CXG co-founder and director, Dr Mark Skeats, used an Investor Day address to flag a move into fresh water.

"The new area that we're looking at is to go into fresh water treatment. How to make potable water."

Skeats added: "We believe there is a capability of using our material in a water treatment plant. Through the whole system."

But Skeats went further. He claimed that Calix products could address toxic scourges in the water/soil spaces - PFAS/poly fluorinated alkyl substances and fluorides.

"We might be able to destroy the PFAS", he said.

While Dr Skeats cautioned Calix would need to conduct R&D, it seems the group has ambitions to become a force in wider water industry.

How big is the local industry? Australia spends an estimated $6 billion each year on water and wastewater treatment services.
