Whilst I believe that Malcolm's elevation to the leader of the LNP was justified, to say that Abbot was 'toxic with everyday Australian public' is ridiculous (but I was fed up seeing him jogging everywhere and coming out of the sea in those awful togs). But, as leader of the Opposition LNP, he gave the Labor Party an absolute hiding. He just didn't have the public persona, and verbal ability, to command leadership in his party. So the LNP did what any political party that wishes to remain in power must do; it changed its leadership.

Whilst Malcolm's verbal proficiency is certainly above that of his predecessor, I certainly don't rate it very highly. And especially when a comparison is made between him and say Keating and Costello, to name just two.
