Marco is right. That is also why ASX clears all the buy and sell order on ex div day. This is to ensure that no one gets caught out.
BTW, the fact that air transport is vital for modern life has nothing to do with profitability or even survivability of an airline. Qantas is suffering because of crap service, old fleet, demoralised workforce and top executives earning millions. Geoff Dixon has squeezed every last drop of blood from this once proud Australian icon.
