There are multiple pluses for TPG going it alone on a network, and there will be lots of noise from competitors trying to say that it can't be done or it can't be done at the cost they are indicating. (Whenever a competitor has a "whinge", you know that your company is causing some stress to them, which is a good thing.) Anyway, back to my inital statement. The pluses are
    a) the 700 Mhz spectrum requires fewer base stations (but some cheaper repeater stations), and without maintenance of legacy spectrum (3G), each tower cost is estimated at about $240,000.
    b) That means that the $600m will build between 2,000 to 2,500 towers. That is enough to cover the 80% population reach that TPG is aiming for.
    c) If TPG just does data, and does voice as VOIP, that again, from my understanding, simplifies the build
    d) If Telstra's regional network is declared, that will be a bonus for TPM, if not, will not affect the business case.
    e) TPM is indicating that it needs 500,000 users to break even at an EBITDA level. It already has 400,000 TPG users on the Vodaphone network, so it is well on it's way to building this new business.
