Unfortunately, some Americanisms are creeping into our language.
Spit, over there, is the past tense of: spit.
I saw a newspaper article yesterday using the term: 'Fess up.
I'm sure "bit", as used, has it's origins there, although I agree that English sentence construction and grammar is abysmal these days, especially on the ABC.
