VIV won the Best Innovation in Energy Efficiency award at the National Energy Efficiency Conference 20-21 November 2017 for their Intelligent LED Lighting Platform. Once “on-line” a VIV site can be monitored and maintained from anywhere in the world that has connection to the internet.

Urbain du Plessis (VIV's Chief Technology Officer) developed the technical specifications for Formula 1 Grand Prix night racing and designed lighting systems for several Olympic stadiums. Urbain holds multiple patents on adapting light to targets with industry-best efficiency - shaping the beam to place light only where it is needed. Imagine this - a light goes out in the Coca Cola facility and sends a notification to a VIV technician, with the model and location and how to access the facility. They go directly there and replace the light. They look at the data gathered from the light to check why it failed - they can then diagnose and predict which other lights are expected to fail soon. They replace those - the big data gathered on the failed units helps them add to the aggregate reliability data collected to improve efficiency further. This is dramatically more efficient and just one example of how to utilise the data collected. Everything is streamlined. Customers clearly love it.

Another use of data gathered could be foot traffic in a shopping centre - they can determine which areas have the highest customer traffic and maximise luminosity in those areas. They can also use this data to help the shopping centre determine the most effective place for advertising billboards/events/product placements. They can assist with the planning of future physical expansion requirements etc.

The big data aspect is amazing.
