In East Asia individualism is generally shunned. Collective decision and confuscian hierarchy are still in place. Even though China's one child policy may change some areas of social discourse the region remains one with the dao. To argue otherwise is simplisitc at best. Individual subjectivity and analysis is not how most Asian people I have met think. The emphasis is always one of harmony and where one fits into the big picture. Not how the big picture fits around them. Same goes for education, socratic method is shunned over social harmony. All in my opinion of course
