I think the impairments probably relate more to accounting treatment. Although I am no expert of accounting rules I believe there would be an impact on holding R&D expenditure for example as an asset on your balance sheet if the likelihood of receiving revenue moved from 2 years to 6 years. I wouldn't read too much into the impairment as I believe it would be accounting rule related to the delay.
