'Rising star' unfazed by falling nickel price talk

Rox Resources' managing director has dismissed speculation about the falling nickel price, saying it is a secondary consideration for the company.

Along with a handful of other Goldfields' explorers and miners, Rox Resources has been listed as one of the 'rising stars' of the resources industry by Patersons Resources Review for March.

Rox Resources made a recent nickel discovery east of Wiluna.

Ian Mulholland says he is very pleased but admits it does place added expectations on the company.

"There's an expectation that you're going to be continually producing good results and certainly that's what we strive to do," he said.

"Exploration is one of those games where you get your successes and sometimes you know you get disappointing results and you've got to ... take the good with the bad and put it all into perspective and move forward."

Mr Mulholland says the company is not too concerned at this stage about speculation that nickel prices may fall.

"Compared to where the nickel price was 10 years ago ... the nickel price is quite [a] good price," he said.

"I know that there is stories around about nickel miners in Kambalda struggling and all the rest of it but for us it's a secondary consideration at this time, once you become a producer it obviously becomes more important."
