Interesting how they plan to run passenger trains at speeds of up to 170kph on the same track as 30,000 ore trains travelling at 80kph.
Also using 50kg rail is not world standard for heavy freight haulage...a minimum of 60kg rail is used in Qld and NSW coal lines. I think Fortescue is even heavier...maybe 80kg rail. Certainly Fortescue is the world bench mark for heavy haulage rail with 40 tonne axle loadings (160 tonne per wagon). This is heavier than BHP and RIO lines.
I would hope that when the railway is built it is built to the highest possible load ratings (40 tonne axle loads) as it is a long trip (500km) and the more efficient the better (ie the greater tonnage per train as possible).
