The Cameroon national railway master plan was adopted. It provides on the period from 2012 to 2020, construction at short, medium and long terms of a network of transport according to the modern standards with a rail of 50 kg and a gauge of 1.435 mm, intended to increase trade in national space, as well as with neighbouring countries.
The final report of the study that led to the preparation of the Cameroon national railway master plan was presented Friday last in Yaoundé, under the coordination of the Minister in charge of the economy, Emmanuel Nganou which. The realization of this new infrastructure whose total cost is estimated at 14 976,50 F billion, will be in three main directions.
    Serve the industrial areas
It was the railroad that the iron in Mbalam and alumina produced at Edea can be forwarded to the port of Kribi (currently under construction), to be exported. In the short term, the achievement of new national rail plan provides for the construction of the sections Edea-Port of Kribi (136 km) and Mbalam - Port of Kribi (602, 6 km).
According to Guy Daniel Abuna Zoa, Director of infrastructure and support for local and regional development in the Minepat, it link the main ports to mining areas of the country, to make the Cameroonian industry. The execution of the project in the short term also provides for the construction of the Douala-Limbe (73.5 km) and Ngaoundéré-Douala (907,5 km) sections. The feasibility studies on these sections should be finalised this year.
    Interconnect cities
So far, the Cameroon rail serves only a few cities in the country. The Transcam I (Douala-Yaoundé) long of 264 km and Transcam II (Yaoundé-Belabo and Ngaoundéré Belabo) long of 620 km. According to the new scheme, several other cities will be served. This is in the short term of lamina via the segment (Douala-Limbe). Medium term, are the towns of Koussseri, Kumba, Wum, Gamboula, Foumban, Bafoussam, Mora, Ngoyla, Jakiri and Mintom that welcome this new mode of transportation.
    Beyond the borders
The new route offers interconnects with the countries neighbouring Cameroon, as Chad, car, DRC, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and later Angola. The aim was to capture a traffic increase.
During exchanges, participants also expressed the wish to see a railroad on the Ouesso-Sangmelima axis. To finance this project, several typical patterns have been presented, including the public-private partnership Built Operate Transfer (BOT) and to a certain extent, the bond. It is expected a round table with the public and private investors for the financing and implementation of the priority plan phases.
