South Korean Group to Draw Up Cameroon Railway Plan by May
A group of South Korean companies will draw up a plan to expand Cameroon’s rail network by May, said Paul Tasong, the permanent secretary at the economy ministry.
The rail system is needed to connect infrastructure projects, such as the Lom Panga hydroelectric reservoir in the east and the Memve’ele hydroelectric project in the south, and iron ore and bauxite mines, Tasong said in the capital, Yaounde, yesterday.
“The government wants to regulate the system, layout the rules and set out the standards for potential companies to follow,” he said.
Cameroon has one main railway line built during the colonial period that runs from the port city of Douala to Ngaoundere in the heart of the country.
