bacci,
"We were born free, its not up to the government to impose its view on us of how to live our lives. If we are not interfering with others we should be left to chose our own path."
The key condition is provided we are not interfering with the lives of others, and for that, we do need some government intervention to make sure that is the case.
In a free society, we should all be free to live our lives the way we choose to, within the framework set by the norm.
Some people will start to argue on what the "norm" should be. In our western society, and even in some non western societies, there are certain universal human values, and ethics, which should form the basis of our "norm".
In my younger days I would have loved to have a yarn on such an over-arching philosophy.
