According to Wikileaks, Michael Coutts-Trotter admitted to heroin addiction and served three years for doing so. Tanya Plibersek was born in Australia and is therefore free to determine for herself who she will marry; apparently he is the love of her life.

Now that Plibersek has a key role and already recognised as an excellent performer, I've no doubt that the mud machine will spew as much filth as it can on her private life; as it did to Julia Gillard - the sexist thing that so burdens Australia is rearing its ugly head again.

But given the decision by Barry O'Farrell to appoint Plibersek's husband as the Director-General of the Department of Finance and Services, it appears that at least his judgement differs markedly from the pernicious one you expressed.

So much for that great Aussie tradition of 'a fair go'.
