I don't understand what darkroom believes either. Maybe (and I'm probably wrong) he places himself on the spectrum mentioned above closer to the side that favours a belief in a God without stating that there is definitely a God.
Maybe - if we could distil it down to its essence - it is:
Stage 1/ Consciousness
That's what I am picking up anyway. The fact that there could be no 'plan' is something that seems to fill him with a sort of existential horror.
