    I like to look at both. D&A might not be a cash cost, but it is still a real cost.
    If we bank $20M, but then also writedown the value of our assets by $20M then what is the net position.

    If you don't count it, it makes owning property look overly attractive vs leasing it because you aren't counting all the costs.

    The Net Profit is the actual long term real value that the business is creating. EBITDA might more closely reflect what the company can use to meet their short/medium term obligations, e.g repaying debt, etc.
