To me, those who populate these threads are typical of the reasons why the country doesn't work. If you (they) had their own lives in order they would know what decisions to make to ensure the correct running of the country. Eg how many grow, raise their own food? Make your own power? Make your own fuel? make your own booze? Harvest and store your own water, process your own waste? The list goes on and on and on. The govt should concentrate on putting everything in place to make sure all these things can happen, ie the supporting industries. Once this is in place you dont even need a bloody job. Yet the idiots running the show dont do this for the country and every one expects them to hand out support when times get a bit tough. Once one takes responsibility for ones own destiny then the system you vote for and who you vote for would change and we wouldn't need to worry about what countries on the other side of the world do or dont do or make or dont make or do or dont sell or buy. In the mean time there are a thousand keyboard warriors who couldn't organize a bbq or a party without going to the supermarket to put it politely telling everyone who will listen how to run the country. Its time people started taking responsibility for their own actions (from the bottom to the top) and stopped blaming everybody else. Maybe we could start with the education system and teach kids to survive on their own (in every conceivable way) instead of brainwashing them with crap that is of no value to them what so ever.

The DIY lifestyle you advocate is reminiscent of the Hippy drop-out philosophy which in turn was a rejection of conventional industrial society. if everyone were to follow your suggestions , then we would regress back to an agrarian subsistence society without the public services and public infrastructure we have today. I guess there are some back to nature warriors from the 60s still hanging out in Ninbin growing their own , etc?
