China has a large trade surplus with Australia. Those dollars can only buy Australian assets or goods. China can't spend that money in the US.
China doesn't want to buy stuff with it so they must buy assets. If we don't allow such sales China will be forced to on-sell our currency to others who can't buy our assets either so they will buy them at a discount. Eventually we will have a Pacific Peso and we will not be able to buy from China, or anyone else. Our comfortable standard of living and high wages will fall.
So if you don't like asset sales, don't buy toys made in China. The two are inexorably linked.
