I have given up trying to understand Trump. He appears to to be overthinking everything.
Today, it may change tomorrow, he seems to understand that Putin's demand to BEGIN peace talks is total Ukrainian capitulation. Trump has come down to earth, realising that he does NOT have any special relationship with foreign leaders, Putin included, and it is possible that he will pivot to beast mode.
Putin is saying that any Ukrainian fighters captured in Kursk Oblast will be treated as terrorists and summarily executed. This, on top of a litany of previous war crimes, may be his undoing. No way could Russia, in it's present overstretched state, resist a fresh combined, professional force with good air cover for long.
