hi trees the pasture hay is cheap up this way thats why it doubles as mulch, better quality eg clover pasture rye pasture $8. Very true a lot of cheap hay is riddled with weeds even though not visible. Purchasing good quality irrigated lucerne or guarranteed weed free seems the best choice. Passpallum hay is good mulch as it takes a long time to break down Actually large silage bales might be a thought as the natural fermentation kills the bulk of seed and can be the equivalent of up to 12 small bales, lucerne silage approx $100 each then you have much string or netting and plastic to dispose of....
