my father's family left Lebanon just after my father's birth because other members of their family were living in Canada & Spain. my father's two brothers & sister are Canadian born. they returned to Lebanon from Spain at a time after the Spanish Civil war started. While they were in Lebanon, it was a French protectorate and was never a dominant Islamic society and, at that time, the relations between the different cultural & religious groups had no issues. even in Palestine, the Jews & locals lived in harmony.
