One point that I should remind eveyone, while the first mechanistic target of rapamycin drug molecule was discovered in the 1960s, it wasn't until 1994 iirc that the mTOR regulatory complex in cells was discovered or its immensely vital role began to be understood. Since then it was realised that there are actually two seperate mTOR mechanisms regulating a whole lot of critical functions, and the malfunction of these negative and postive feedback loop regulatory systems have been become suspect in playing a role in many illnesses. So really the whole mTOR research area is very new.
