Footmax, that is a very good point..... and I like the thinking out loud and the science. Here's what motivated me to investigate the veracity of Leslie Chong.... It is a totally unrelated matter - but it made me think and there are parallels to my IMU journey.
I own an old BMW that I love and have been going to the same mechanic for 11 years. I recently had the engine light come on and witnessed a fast leaking of fluid from the radiator. So, of course, I took it into my trusted mechanic. His diagnosis was a blown head gasket, warped plate and screws needed to be drilled out and replaced and possibly more. How much will it cost?, I asked. He said, anywhere between $5500 and $9500. The car is probably worth $10K, I thought - so, I said, let me think about it. I slept on it and then called him back and said to go ahead with the repair. He said, well, I'm going to have to get a $3K deposit from you. Why? Remember, I've known the guy for over a decade. He said, it helps with my cashflow. And something felt very wrong in my gut. So I said, let's forget about it and organised it to be towed to another BMW mechanic - someone I didn't know. They took a couple weeks to look at it and when they called me, they said I had a cracked "something- I don't remember". I then asked how much would it cost to fix? They said, around $600+ GST. So, I said go ahead. And they fixed it. My bill was $720. Almost, exactly what they quoted. No blown head gasket. No warped rocker cover.
The moral of the story is that even though you think you know somebody because you've been dealing with them for years, they might be con artists. And I'm not suggesting Leslie is a con-artist. I wouldn't say that.
