    LOL! But God help them if an Essential Question is "Why is God real but not the tooth fairy?"

    My interpretation is basically some RichardHead is trying to make a name for themselves with an impressive sounding concept which can be used to influence kids' thinking. It is supposed to make you believe that they are trying to encourage your child to think about things, whereas in reality they are dictating what they should be thinking ("No Emily, "Why must I put on my sunscreen?" is not an Essential Question so we are not going to discuss it. We all know the answer. Now, just poison yourself quickly so we can all go outside.").

    It is moving further away from basics. Teach them reading, riting and rithmetic first, without the use of computers or calculators. Any teacher who cannot cope with any questions that primary school kids ask ad hoc shouldn't be there, and the same goes of high school teachers in their specialist topics.
