Personally I don't believe that buy and hold aka long term investing is a good idea unless we're talking about a quality company. Santos is a piece of junk with seemingly endless problems. As MMP said, sure you might get a positive return one day, but after the amount of time and risk involved is considered, it was a bad investment. Also, people with too much at stake (either long or short) are going to be naturally biased.
