I imagine its just risk management.
He's not on the board anymore but still holds around 55-60 million shares through various interests.
Nows the time to reduce exposure while there's interest in the Windermere project. 60 million shares is a lot to shift in a tiddler like BAS so best for him to get an early start.
I suspect he will still hold a sizable chunk through the drilling.
