The problem, imo, is the strength in numbers is also the weakness. Great on the way up with momentum when all are like-minded, but when the pressure is really on, all those individuals start making individual decisions again, so it starts to crumble. Its human nature.
Also, unless you're really intent on a social protest trade where you're happy to throw your money away, we are in a trade to make a profit, which means you have to sell at some point (when in profit).
