From what I can see, TPG is gearing up to go all in on 5G (logical course of action to be fair). Despite it being a "wireless" technology, fibre is critical to it. Have a read of these articles to get an idea on it

So they want to own as much fibre as possible to be able to offer the best quality service, which will then become their competitive advantage.
