Russia is on the doorstep of a bunch of smaller Eastern European nations that it has previously invaded, and they all want to join NATO. They all want to join NATO because they are terrified of Russian imperialism and Putins territorial ambitions.

No doubt we will see a lot more victim blaming and brainless ranting about NATO before this is all over, but the bottom line is that Russias past and present aggression in fuelling the drive to NATO membership. The Baltic nations, Poland, Finland, Ukraine and others have been subjugated by the Russians in the past, and they never want it to happen again. They are free sovereign nations who do not want Russian interference of any sort in their own sovereign affairs.
