Without being a Christian apologist, it think it could be argued that the Bible is far and away a work dealing almost exclusively with spiritual concepts. The return of Christ in the lifetime of His audience has a non-literal meaning.

A non literal return of Jesus in power and glory - for all the tribes on Earth to see - is exactly like no return at all. As allegory it is essentially meaningless. The first Christians, those reportedly listening to the words, expected a literal return.
