When Russia, with the help of US lend lease Studebaker and Chevy trucks, defeated fascism, with General Zhukov leading the counterattack which started with the destruction of the Von Paulus army in Stalingrad. The Russians had Germany in full retreat before the D Day landings.
Defeating fascism came at a cost of over 20,000,000 lives on the Russian side. That is not a lesson you can forget. Russia lost a 120,000 strong army just defending the Crimea against Germany. Seeing fascism gaining a foothold next door must have been like a red rag to a bull for Putin.
You probably have seen this from a very propaganda effected perspective. No one is calling this military engagement good. It is tragic it has come to this.
