Hi B. I had also in mind the example of the social housing program (HDB) in Singapore. It is probably the main reason why home ownership is 90 % in Singapore vs 67 % in Australia (2016 census figure). The other reason is that Singaporian can use their CPF (equivalent of super) to fund their property purchase.
It seems that this idea of HDB (basically government offering new flats, at subsidised prices) is an interesting idea to help first home buyers.Foreigners are also excluded from this program.
