before the outbresk of coronavirus, webjet online booking was a miniscule part of their earnings. Its the webbeds business that was the bread and butter of this company. It's essentially a broker between hotels and other 3rd parties like travel agents, tour operators etc. It was a very profitable business. Also had the network effect as well, if a big hotel chain or a multinational travel agent was to sign up then you've grown your booking potential. I also recall reading that webbeds was even getting into bookings for big tour groups for religious pilgrim tourism in the middle east.

then there's the Rezchain platform which only just went live before this mess started. This platform uses cryto currency technology to weed out costly errors in hotel booking between 3rd parties. Would have been a bit of a pioneering technology in a way as no one i have heard of have used this technology in tourism use case before. And i believe webjet charged for this service on per transaction basis of around 10 cents? That's what i remember reading. But if anyone can clarify? But the more users using it, you can imagine it'll be profitable.

i do have to admit though i had my doubts on performance of some businesses under the webjet business line online republic as they were struggling through some management issues but post covid may not recover as previously hoped?

though this covid outbreak and the resulting aftermath is very uncertain for the wider industry i believe webjet will come back strong (that is provided webjet makes it out on the other end). Hopefully to a more less competitive industry, resulting in higher margin business. I m also a fan of John Guscic and his management team, so i m confident that the best people are working hard to get the company through this tough time.
